Day 6 ~ July 5 ~ Day of W(h)ine

Villatuerta to Los Arcos, 15.2 miles, 9.5 hours

Started out well rested. The first city we came to was Estella which was pretty modern. Continued out of town to fields, orchards and vineyards. Walking up hill most the morning we came to a monastery that has been making wine for centuries. Amazing enough along with a water fountain there was a wine fountain! We stopped to drink a wee bit of Irache vino tinto. Not bad! Some of the fellow walkers were filling there water bottles FULL!

After walking on and struggling a bit we came to the top with a beautiful small village and decided that we would do the next 7.2 miles as we thought that it was mostly downhill and was cloudy and cool. Boy, were we stupid! After 4 miles we were hurting, the sun came out, and we started the other whine. We saw that the signs said only 3.5 miles ( 5K) and thought we ran a 5K in 35 minutes before, we can do this!! Over 2 hours later we came staggering into Los Arcos. The highlight of the last part Doug says was the hymns that we sang to keep our mind off the pain!
