Day 1~June 30th~Glorious!

St. Jean Pied de Port France to Roncevelles Spain. 600feet up to 4757feet down to 2750feet in 16 miles, 9.5 hours. I would like to argue about the miles but maybe in a later blog!!

The day was glorious! As we worked our way over the Pyrenees in the sunshine we found the landscape to be so beautiful that words can't describe. We continued to stop to look behind us to see where we had been, trees, fields, white buildings with red roofs, horses, sheep & cows roaming free. So glorious!

This was also the hardest physical day that we both have ever had! Going up Doug would continually say don't look up after I would say "holy moly". We were praying for descent! 3/4 of the day we started down, at this point I was saying "Oh, my goodness". Doug would say don't look down ;-). The last 2 miles we were both just laughing (thinking of you Amy) because we hurt so bad. Bed, showers and food never felt so good!

The picture of Doug is in one of the levelest spots allowing me to take a quick picture without the camera moving from the deep breaths.
